Last Lion Head

Yesterday I sold the last of Kayla's litter to an extremely sweet lady who really adored my white with tan male.

Other than the female I'm keeping (Abby), I only have one other to sell.  And that one is my little male who lives on the porch with the other orphaned bunnies.  Abby's brother and the last of Olivia's babies who is for sale.

However, I'm actually meeting a woman today who is hoping to buy him.  If so, I will then officially be out of Lion Heads to sell until spring next year when I begin breeding my females again.

And luckily, by spring next year Abby will be old enough to breed.  So I will have 2 female Lion Heads breeding again instead of just Kayla.  Also, Abby was Olivia and Phantom's daughter.  So she can be bred to Piccolo who is not related and I can breed Kayla to Phantom, as they are not related either.

So in the end, it all works out.  Although with craigslist, you can never be 100% sure the people will show up when they say they will.  So if my buyer never shows, I still have that friend who I can offer him to.

9/11

Today is the anniversary of 9/11.  The day the twin towers were destroyed and American lives were lost due to a terrorist attack.

Here are 2 songs with which really capture the American spirit and also help us remember that horrific day.

This first song is done by Allen Jackson.  It's called "Where Were You?"

This second song was done by Toby Keith and it's called Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue.

May you all have a blessed rest of the day and as I have my freedom of speech, God bless America!

Sold Bunnies

So between my Lion Head Kayla and my deceased Lion Head Olivia, I had a total of 8 Lion Head bunnies.

I was rooting for females, especially once Olivia died.  Ironically however, 7 of them were all males! Only one was a female.  Consequently, I did NOT put my only female up for sale.  Instead I'm raising her up as a replacement for her mother, Olivia.

This female's super cute because she has her father's blue eyes and white spots, but her mother's tan coat.  And since I've been bottle feeding her, she's extremely sweet and very loving! So she's completely opposite from her mother in that respect.

Anyway, the 7 males I put up on craigslist.  All of a sudden, I started getting a LOT of interest in them!  I've never had so much interest in such a short amount of time on ANY litter of bunnies!

Needless to say, I've sold all but one.  Although I'm fairly confident someone will shortly be interested in the last male.  If not though, I actually have some friends who gave us a Lion Head female almost 8 years ago.

Now, the female they gave us is long gone, but they've always been interested in getting another Lion Head.  So if I don't get any interest on this male within the next few days, then I'll contact them and see if they would like a pet bunny again.

Caramel

Caramel was from my female Scarlet's very first litter.  Since he was male, I could not keep him.  I already had enough males and so he needed to find a new home.  I had raised him, loved him, tended him, etc. his entire life.  So I did not want to just sell him to anyone.

Some friends of ours wanted to get into breeding rabbits, so I gave them Caramel to be their breeding male.

This happened a few months ago that they got him.  He was, at that point, definitely old enough to begin breeding.  In fact, before they got him I actually had him breed with my female, Jazz.

Since Jazz died, I actually am still bottle feeding his 4 remaining kits.  One of them looks just like him and is a male too.

There was one occasion when Caramel was only a few weeks old that he and his siblings all got out of their cage and took off into the woods.  My siblings tried catching them and got all but him.  I went out and looked for him.  After a little bit, I saw him.  Instead of chasing him, I kneeled down and called to him.

After a moment or two, he came right over and let me pick him up and take him back to his cage.  He was the sweetest and pretties rabbit ever.  I absolutely LOVE rabbits with his coloring and he was the very first bunny I ever had that was that coloring.

Sadly though, yesterday a neighbor's dog came into my friend's yard and killed Caramel.  So...Caramel is no more.  Now as much as I loved Caramel, there is no way to undo what happened.  I am very glad though that I have his son who looks and acts so much like him.

So there it is...the basic story of Caramel, my first male that color who I'd raised and loved.  But I'm confident that God has a place for all the animals.  So there is no need to worry about him.  Not only this, but he will no longer ever be in any discomfort.

Rabbits, Rabbits, Rabbits, etc!

I have had so many wonderful rabbits throughout these few years with which I've been breeding bunnies.

My computer is absolutely LOADED with pictures of different rabbits! It really is crazy as to just how many photo's of bunnies I have.

This collage on the side is made up entirely of my rabbit photos and this doesn't even  scratch the surface of the photo's I have of them.

So this post is for different rabbit photo's I've taken. There are a few collages, a few singles, etc.

Enjoy! :)

And of course we cannot forget wonderful single shots! :)

Age Old Question Answered?

Which came first, the chicken or the egg???

This old question has always been a favorite for people to stump one another on.

It always seems to be an interesting experience listening to different opinions of people and why they think a certain one came first.

Well, here is my answer to this question...

The Bible's first book is Genesis.  Inside of Genesis we read all about how God created the world in a course of seven days.

There's a chant about the seven days of creation which goes like this: Day 1 - Day and Night. Day 2 - Heaven and Earth. Day 3 - Seas and Land. Day 4 - Sun, Moon, and Stars. Day 5 - Creatures of the Land and of the Sea. Day 6 - Creatures of Dry Land and then came Man....

Then there's the ending to this chant about how God rested on the 7th day, but I'm sure you get the general gist of it.

When God created man of the sixth day, He created a full grown man. Not a child, but an adult.   When God created the earth on day two, He created an aged earth.  When God created the land creatures, sea creatures, and sky creatures, He created them as mature creatures so they would be ready to multiply!

With all this in mind, it only stands to reason that God created a mature chicken BEFORE He created the egg.   So my answer to this question would have to be the chicken came before the egg.

*Note - if you would like more facts of how the earth is aged and all about creation, check out this link: http://natureofcreation.org/  Mike Snavely proves scientifically that creation is true.

LOTS of Bunnies!!!

First off, I hope you all had a great labor day! My dad worked out our school schedules and gave us yesterday off...which was wonderful.

Secondly, the puppies are getting bigger than every!  They are absolutely adorable.  Once again, you can see all the recent photo's of them by clicking this link: http://lovethosepuppies.blogspot.com/

Now to the bunnies.  It's actually been really hot these past few days.  Yesterday I went to give the bunnies on the porch some water only to notice the caramel colored one didn't look the best.  I got him out of there and realized very quickly he was too hot.

The blanket which is on top of the crib to keep flies away and also keep them from jumping out was holding in a LOT of heat.  So with one of the extra outdoor cages we had, I let them run around in the grass for the rest of the day.

This blanket keeps the flies away from the bunnies as well as keeps them from jumping out

Luckily, the caramel colored bunny is perfectly fine.   And one of my lion heads actually was part of a petting zoo for a church picnic yesterday.  I'll be getting him back shortly.

The 'porch bunnies' in their outside hutch and the blue on the side is a towel giving them a nice splotch of shade

So tired :)

Buttons' is doing a wonderful job with her litter! They're so cute and have all opened their eyes up.  I absolutely love the brown and white ones...I'm really hoping that at least ONE of them is a girl! Especially after my adorable spotted lion head turned out to be a male.

They're getting so active!

Hopefully this one's a female!

This one looks like Nutmeg did as a baby...

This one's eyes are still a little more closed than the others.

Then thing 1...

...and thing two! :)

Buttons...eating a leaf.

Which brings me to my next thing...since I lost Olivia, my other Lion Head female, I'm going to keep her daughter who actually is one of the bunnies on the porch.  She has blue eyes like Phantom (her dad) and is very sweet.

You can see her eyes are blue here...

So yes, all my rabbits are doing very well! And with the puppies, school, etc...I haven't been able to do a really good clean up in my rabbitry lately.  So yesterday after I had fed and watered them all, I got rid of a bunch of the webs that were out there and some trash would had been left out there, etc.

Hopefully today I'll be able to complete my cleaning and get everything back in order!  Oreo and Phantom have both been molting, so there is fur everywhere back there! I cleaned a lot of it up yesterday, but it's a constant.

Anyway, that's what has been going on with the bunnies.  Oh, and phantom actually bred a neighbor's rabbit so we'll see if she has babies or not and my male Caramel who I sold a few months back is supposedly going to have another litter, which is good.

You have to get these few litters in before the winter months strike!
