Current Lion Head Litters

Here are pictures of every single Lion head I currently have through different litters.

First up, Black/White VM male.

He's from Rose's litter, sired by Phantom.  Rose's the Lion Head female who past away while this litter (her first and only) was around 3-4 weeks old.  So her entire litter was hand-fed milk formula, organic herbs, fresh water, and pellets everyday to get them to this point.  They're all extremely healthy and very sweet.

Another one of Rose's, a Black/White male with blue eyes.

Even though both his parents were Lion Heads, he really doesn't seem to have any real 'mane', just slightly longer fur around the back of his head.  He looks more like a Dutch.  So I'm thinking the Mennonites I purchased Rose from had inter-bred a Dutch to their Lion Heads, somewhere down the line.

Then the only female to survive the death of their mother, a Blue VM.

I'm actually going to keep her, she's not terribly fluffy, however I traditionally keep a female from any litter which the mother passes.  Almost like keeping the 'family-line' going.

And the last one from Rose's litter that I still have, an all Black male.

I think this little guy is really cute, he doesn't have much of a mane, but what he does is always sticking up in some crazy fashion :)

This little Lion Head male was the only baby born from my female Cali's litter, sired by Phantom.

In order for him to stay warm enough to survive, I put him in with my female New Girl's litter, where he's grown up and lived with ever since.  So he's have Lion Head, as Cali's not Lion Head at all.  But he has a beautiful mane and really nice disposition.  He's a beautiful Orange VM.

Moving onto Misty's litter, sired by Phantom.

This little male, Magpie colored.  He's so small - the whole litter is.  Misty's a really tiny Lion Head and Phantom's fairly small himself, so all the babies are really small.  They're all beyond sweet though.

Misty's Broken Tort female with blue eyes.

She's a really nice bunny, but doesn't seem to have a very strong mane.

Unlike her brother, the other Broken Tort with blue eyes in the litter.

His mane is really beautiful! It's thick and long...making it tempting to keep this little guy as Phantom's 'back-up'.

This is a BEW (Blue Eyed White) female.

Out of the entire litter, she seems to have the most 'attitude'.  She's really sweet though, very curious.  She's another one that I'll be raising up for this spring.

Misty's Calico female with blue eyes.

Her mane isn't the strongest, but I'm keeping her to raise up for next spring.  I've always wanted a Calico Lion Head, so that's the biggest reason.  I'm hoping to get the coloring to go through to some offspring.  Hopefully if I breed her with my Harlequin colored male Zeus, the babies will have the beautiful coloring as well as nice, thick coats.

Here's Neptune's litter, all lined up.  Their sire is also Phantom. Two identical on the ends, with the middle one being a VM.  Their like a dusty colored Tort - maybe a Blue Tort.  The one of the left and the one in the middle are both males.  The third is a female, and I'm hoping to keep her, raise her up for this spring as well.

Here's Kizzy's bunch.  First up is her Albino female, litter sired by Phantom.

She already seems to have a beautiful, thick coat coming in.  Not only that, but she's another one which I'll definitely be raising up for spring.

Kizzy's Black VM female.

She's beyond cute, sweet, and her coat is perfect.  But I'm not sure I want to keep her or not.  The reason being darker colors aren't very popular, but it's a dominant color.  So I don't know that it's the wisest choice to keep her, even though she's beyond adorable.

This little guy - chilling on his back :)

Last but not least - Tasha's litter, sired once again by Phantom.

This little male is Tort VM.  Beautiful coat and crazy energetic personality! He's always on the go.  Just love to run and have fun.

Tasha's other male - Broken Tort with one marbled eye of blue/brown, and one full brown eye.

It's hard to tell from the lighting, but the picture above is his marbled eye, the picture below is of his solid brown.  He's much more relaxed than his brother.

Onto Tasha's females - who all seemed to be very eager in getting their photo's taken, as they all did an awesome job posing!

This little Sandy VM female, beyond cute and very sweet.  She's another one which I'll be raising up for spring breeding.

And this female, another Sandy VM, although she has some really neat eyes!

Both her eyes are split, like the picture below.  The bottom halves are both blue and the top halves are both brown.

She's another one I'm going to raise up.  This entire litter all have gorgeous, thick coats.

A Tort VM female.

Other than the little bit of white on her face, she looks just like her mother, Tasha.

Then lastly, Broken Tort female with blue eyes.

Now SHE was not only posing for the camera, but apparently is extremely photogenic!

She's the last of the Lion Head females and yes, I'll be raising her up as well.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, and I'm not sure if this will happen or not, but I'm seriously thinking of slowly fading out of breeding Lops and putting more of my focus on Lion Heads.  Although that's not definite.  Lops are just such a sweet breed.  So we'll see.  I doubt it will happen, but you never know.

New Hutches

For a few years now, I've been using an old chicken coop - turned rabbit hutch into a 'nursery' where 4 different mothers with their litters could give birth and raise their babies.  However, with some unusually placed holes, many babies would slip in between sections, often times getting attacked by the other mothers, occasionally ending in death.  Or the occasional break in the wire, leading to babies falling through, either harming themselves or losing too much heat until found to recover.

So after dealing with all that for the past few years, I've finally managed to get ahold of both cheap, and free hutches to completely replace that old 4 sectioned hutch! Not to mention, the one hutch is a double, so I actually gained another section.

Above are the 4 new hutches, lined up in the middle of my rabbitry.  Luckily, with the new design and the placement of my structures which hold the wire cages, there's a fair bit of room for these hutches to remain where they are temporarily, without causing too much of an issue.

They go all the way from one structure...

...to the other.

And of course, all my other hutches are still lined up where they usually are.  Although these new hutches will be going where my old hutch currently is.  I'll have to dismantle the old hutch before being able to move these new hutches into their proper place.

The front view of the new hutches. They'll all look much better once painted to look more uniform, matching all the other hutches.

The big double hutch currently is holding the 5 Lop females I'm raising up to be breeders this spring.

Luckily, they're all fairly easy-going in temperament, so there hasn't been any issues with aggression.

The broken blue female on the left - from Cupcake's litter, sired by Gorman.  And the other two are from Cora's litter, also sired by Gorman.

:)

The broken Chocolate female, from Bonnie's litter.  She seems to be the most dominant, occasionally trying to hump the others.  However, she's not acting aggressive towards the others.

And the broken Black female with blue eyes, sisters to the two others from Cora and Gorman's litter.  All 3 females have blue eyes.  However, this female has one marbled eye, a mix of blue and brown.

Luckily, they're all around the same size, helping to avoid any attacks.

There is a middle section which can be raised, completely separating the 2 different sections.  However for now, keeping the section down allows the 5 females a larger amount of space to roam around in.
