My parents met with an insurance man the other day and while they talked in the kitchen, my siblings and I went upstairs with a laptop and watched old Dick Van Dyke shows.
After the man had been here for a good hour, we were all getting hungry. So my one sister and I came downstairs and ordered in a pizza.
Not long after we went down to go pick it up. We were in the car, and it was completely dark out because it was so late. My sister turned around to look before backing the car up.
She jumped and was like, "That scarred me! I didn't expect to see a guy over there."
Now...we live in the woods...we NEVER have people just...around.
I was like "What do you mean a guy?"
"A guy, right over there!" She pointed to the insurance guy's car as she backed our car up.
In the passenger side of the car was an old man, white haired with a baseball cap on and wearing an old flannel shirt with a jean jacket.
As our car beams went across the insurance man's car, this older man sat back as far as he could in the seat so as not to be seen. His eyes were very wide and he was staring at our car as we left.
I was like, "He's stealing the insurance man's car!"
"Didn't the insurance man come with someone?"
"No, he came up to the house by himself!"
Well...needless to say we were both really freaked out! I asked my sister if she had her cell phone and she said it was in her purse.
I tried to put on a light to see, but it wouldn't work, so I began trying to feel for it. Thankfully it was only a matter of seconds before I found it.
"Pull down this road and stop the car."
"No, what if he's following us?!"
"Stop the car, just stop the car."
We pulled over and I called home....no one picked up and it took me to the voicemail..."If you'd like to leave a message--"
Finally I heard the beep, "Mom, pick up the phone now."
Nothing.
I began to say it again, when I heard my mother on the other end of the line.
"Someone's in the insurance man's car...I think he's stealing the car, ask him if he came with anyone because his car is being stolen!"
She asked him and then said, "He said yes, he came with someone...he has a driver."
I was beyond relieved and so was my sister to find out that this guy was supposed to be there...however it still was super scary.
On the way to get the pizza, my sister jokingly said, "I cannot believe how scary that was! I could not imagine being on 24!"
(24, the television series starring Kiefer Sutherland)
Anyway, that was our very...different evening last night. However horrified we were when it happened, we were both very happy knowing that everything was alright.
