Kayla's Litter

Late afternoon this past Friday, Kayla had a small, but adorable litter of 2 babies.  One was all pink, probably going to be all white! The other had darker skin, and would look more like the sire, Phantom.  But, yesterday I went out to feed and water only to find Kayla had taken one of the babies out on the wire.  There, she proceeded to eat it's stomach, and nibble the tips of it's ears, and all it's toes.

Sadly, that baby was dead.  Then, since she only had one remaining, without the heat of it's sibling, it grew too cold.  I opened the hutch immediately after finding the baby on the wire, to discover the other baby had frozen to death.

Lion Heads are, in my personal opinion (at least, right now...it switches from time to time), some of the cutest bunnies there are.  And I was so excited, even though the litter was small, to be getting some more bunnies.  I had hoped, if one was female, to keep her and raise her up.  I guess I'll have to wait for one of my other Lion Heads to have a litter.  But that is the latest news with Kayla's litter.  Very saddening.  I wish I had found the other baby sooner, maybe being able to get it warm and put in in with New Girl or Luna to raise...but I guess it was not meant to be.
