Making Nests

So tomorrow my Mini Lop Luna, my Lion Head Kayla, and my Rex mix female New Girl are all due!

They've all begun making their nests and pulling out fur...

New Girl, trying to get some rest :)

I'm excited about New Girl's litter! She's had 2 others before and was an awesome mom! But, those were both with her previous owner.  When I got her, she was still nursing 2 three month old babies from her first litter, and 6 three or four week old babies from her second.  This will be her third litter.

I gave her a long break because I didn't want her to lose her health.  But I really do have nothing but faith in her mothering skills and she was FANTASTIC with her other litters :)  Down below is the nest she currently has built up in prepration for her babies.

Then here's Luna.

She's been ripping fur out for...maybe 3 or 4 weeks now.  She's had 2 litters before as well and is also a FANTASTIC mother!!! I think she's so great :)

She's my Lop who has large litters and seems to do really well with having that large size.  I gave her some hay to help build up her nest last night, as well as this morning.  So in the pictures, all you can really see is the hay, but underneath there is lots of fur!

And third, here's Kayla.

This will be her 5th litter.  Her largest litter had 5 babies, and her smallest was 3.  She's also a super mother! Not only does she raise her own, but for her first 2 litters, she also raised up a few babies from a different mother! So she's a great mom, and a fantastic foster mom too!

Although with her, she doesn't like her babies being touched until around day 10.  If you don't wait, and touch the babies before then, she'll kill them.

So I just wait out the 10 days...it's not that big of a deal :)

I'd rather not touch and have live babies then touch and have dead ones!

She was one of my first female Lion Heads ever.  I got her and Olivia at the same time.  Olivia was evil, but Kayla was always sweet.  She's a good mom.  And when I got her, she was only $5. Now, I see the same woman who I got Kayla from advertising on craigslist for bunnies of the same breed, sex, color, and age for over $50!

Another great thing about her, (especially when I breed her with Phantom) is that she always produces show quality babies.  And well, show quality always sell for more then pet quality :)
