Kizzy's litter is a very interesting story. Not like my normal ones, where I go "She had __ babies and they're all so healthy and cute and I just love their spots - blah, blah, blah, etc." This is a bit different. I went out early this morning to see she had in fact, given birth. But, she only had 1 baby. Because it didn't have siblings to share body heat with, the baby was really cold. Like, close to death cold.
So, since Dadooshka just had a litter of 5 a few days ago, and she's used to having litters of 10-12, I knew she could easily take this baby in. It would be warm with the other babies and she would easily be able to feed all 6 of them.
But, Kizzy wasn't happy seeing her baby missing. She kept looking for it. I felt bad, and I told my mom when I came in about her litter of 1. And my mom made a good point, asking if this would ruin Kizzy as a breeder.
And yes, it easily could. It could devastate her from the lose of this baby so that for all future litters, she'll ignore them completely, or kill them all off immediately. So, I knew giving Dadooshka the baby and leaving Kizzy with none wasn't the solution.
Then I looked to Bonnie, who gave birth the same day as Dadooshka, having 8 babies. This is Bonnie's first litter, so I figured she might be a little overwhelmed. So distracting Bonnie with some greens, I took 2 of her babies out of her nest, and put them into Kizzy's. I then took Kizzy's baby back from Dadooshka, and put it back into it's rightful nest.
So now Kizzy has 3 babies. After moving the 3 with Kizzy, I kept a close eye on them all, making sure she'd except them. And luckily, it seems as though she has!
Hopefully this will work! I would be surprised if it doesn't. Her last 2 litters had 3 and 4 babies in them. She was able to raise them all to maturity, so I think she'll do just fine with these 3 :)
