The Velveteen Lop babies all seem to be doing well, thank goodness!!! It's been about half a years worth of trying to get a litter from this breed of rabbit.
Lily gave birth to 9 babies, and currently, there are 8 alive.
And they're so cute!! All but one will have a little white streak on their forehead.
The Velveteen breed has been an interesting one. And I now know why you don't see them often. While they are probably the sweetest breed of rabbit available, they're really hard to breed, let alone have a successful litter! I know I'm far from this being successful. Nothing's definite until they've reached 6 weeks old. However, this is definitely looking more hopefully then all the other attempts :)
Ah, yes. The reason Lily and Kayla are in the same post together? Well, today it's because Lily managed to wedge herself between the roof of the hutch and the wooden divider to jump in with Kayla, where they began to brutally fight one another.
All the noise is what caught my attention. I managed to get Lily and pull her out. Neither seemed to have any injuries, just pulled fur. However, I knew I couldn't put Lily back, as she'd just repeat the whole thing. So I had to move her and her litter into a wire cage, but it has a solid bottom. The babies are in a little container 'nesting box' type, full of Lily's fur and hay to keep them warm. However, that cage has been known to fill with water in big storms. And as I'm writing this, there's a huge rain storm going on. I'm going to run out shortly to make sure they're all okay.
And I was extremely relieved to see Lily didn't hurt any of Kayla's babies!
All 4 of her babies are doing very well and are so adorable!! It looks like there will be 2 who will look like Kayla, with the black spots around the eyes. Than possibly 2 pure white babies. And if they are, I'm sure they're going to be albino's, with beautifully rich, red eyes :)
So even though it could have ended VERY badly, I was luckily out with my bunnies the time when Lily jumped in with Kayla so I could separate them with no harm done to either rabbit or any of the babies. All in all, I think it was a rather successful day :)
